Defense Production Act on Food-Supply Chain

On Tuesday, President Trump signed an executive order invoking the Defense Production Act in response to COVID-19’s disruption on the food supply chain in the US.

Plants across the country have been shut down, while others struggle to maintain their thousands of workers in safe working conditions throughout the pandemic. Industry leaders are concerned that this may lead to food-supply shortages.

This new order accounts for meat-processing plants as critical infrastructure and reassures that the food supply industry will be protected from the epidemic.
