Presidential nominee candidate for the Democratic party, Bernie Sanders has doubled-down on his former praise of Dictator Fidel Castro.
When speaking of how Castro carried out socialism in Cuba, Sanders said, “When Fidel Castro first came into power...you know what he did? He initiated a major literacy program...I think teaching people to read and write is a good thing.” He goes on to say in a 60 minutes interview that the Fidel regime was not, “all that bad.”
He has faced criticism for praising parts of the authoritarian regime. The mayor of Miami has sponsored an Anti-Communist concert in response, where many Cubans reside. Many Florida Democrats are also worried the comments will make Bernie Sanders un-electable.
